Tokyo Olympics Delay on the Cards
With the current situation of coronavirus, the delay of Tokyo Olympics is on the cards after Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe told the parliament on Monday that the Tokyo Olympics may be an option if holding the Games in its “complete form” became impossible.
Tokyo 2020 Olympics chief Yoshiro Mori said that the organizers would consider postponement as one of the many scenarios they aim to have ready in the next four weeks.
It needs mention here that in a bold move, Canada became the first country to withdraw from the Tokyo Olympics. Canada said that it won’t send its athletes to the Olympics unless they are postponed for a year.
The Canadian Olympic Committee said holding the Games as planned would threaten the health of its athletes, “their families and the broader Canadian community for athletes to continue training for these Games”.
