Hajo, Giuwahati 16, 2020:

All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) Lurinjyoti Gogoi, while attending the Manikut Utsav in Assam’s Hajo on Thursday, turned down heavily on the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for allegedly attempting to divide the people on religious lines.

In many parts of the country, the division of people along religious lines is possible, but not in Assam, Lurin told an enthusiastic gathering, adding that “nobody can break this amity amongst the Assamese people.” Gogoi also stated that the Assamese people would never allow politicians to divide them on the lines of religion, and sounded a war bugle against those that would “conspire” to do so.

“What does religion teach us? It teaches us to love one another. It promotes peace, amity, and sentiments of brotherhood”, Gogoi stated, adding that communalism or religious division has no place in Assam and “conspiracies” to do so by the ruling dispensation will be thwarted by the people.

Even in the midst of Bihu, the people have had to pour onto the streets, Gogoi said, stating that the festivities have been disrupted in Assam after the implementation of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act. “People are stressed out…their minds are in stress…they are sleeping with the burden of worry in their heads”, Gogoi lamented.

Gogoi also appealed the people to take a stand — “let no power be able to snatch away our language, culture, and identity” Gogoi said, and urged the people to stay united in their fight against the “anti-Assamese” elements.
