Ravi was on an inspection to review the status and progress of construction work of all the roads that were being upgraded. He discovered that the work was progressing at a slow pace and the quality was not upto the mark. The reason for slow progress of the roads, which are being upgraded under the Central government schemes, was extortion.
It was reported that rampant extortions carried out in the areas have hampered the work of road construction. Ravi, after taking serious note of the criminal activities, directed the DGP and IG Assam Rifles to take action against the anti-social elements.
It may be mentioned here that the projects reviewed included fourteen packages of 845.745 Kilometer roads being built by NHIDCL and four projects of 132.59 Kilometers funded by Northeastern Council (NEC) and being built by Nagaland Government.
Chief Secretary, Director General of Police, Additional Chief Secretary, Home Commissioner, Commissioner and Secretary, Works and Housing, Engineer-in-Chief and Chief Engineer, Nagaland were also present during the inspection, besides senior officials of National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL) and Contractors.
