MP Manish Tiwari asked the Government of India regarding its stance on Article 371 (2) and Article 371 (A) to 371 (I), in the Constitution.
In response to this, Minister of State in the Ministry of Home Affairs, G. Kishan Reddy, said, “Article 371 (2) and Articles 371 (A) to 371 (I) are special provisions relating to states in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Nagaland, Assam, Manipur, Andhra Pradesh, Telengana, Sikkim, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, and establishment of a Central University in Andhra Pradesh. There is no proposal to bring about any change in these provisions.”
It may be mentioned that there were wide apprehensions in the Northeastern states after the abrogation of Article 370 and 35A in Kashmir, which provided constitutional safeguards to the local populace.
In response to the panic-situation in the Northeast after the abrogation of Article 371 in Kashmir, Development of North Eastern Region, North East India MDoNER Jitendra Singh, said, “Article 371 itself says I’m temporary in the Constitution. There is no similarity between 370 and and the one that applies to the Northeast. The government is not going through a numerical process of abrogation of the articles. Abrogation of Article 370 does imply that Article 371 will be abrogated.”
