General Secretary of AJYCP Tinsukia district Committee, Kanchan Bora said, “Margherita Region has an abundance of natural resources with people of all ethnic groups and other communities. Unfortunately, some people with vested interests have spoiled Margherita region by operating illicit drugs and liquor trade. This has spoiled the lives of many educated youths and the parents are in trauma-mode.”
“At Margherita Sub Division such as at Bordumsa, Pengree, Ulup, Nagapather, Mugampather, Ketetong, Dibong, Baragolai, Ledo, Jagun and Lekhapani areas, drugs and other forms of intoxicants are easily available, where Margherita Administration (Civil), Margherita Police and Margherita Excise department are in deep slumber and we believe there is an unholy nexus between the drugs traders and concerned departments of Margherita,” he added.
The AJYCP have asked Excise Minister of Assam, Parimal Suklavaidya to immediately take action against those who are involved in illicit drugs and liquor trade at Margherita
A memorandum was submitted to the Excise Minister of Assam through Margherita Administration (Civil).
