Indian Army and Royal Thailand Army have held a joint exercise called MAITREE at the Foreign Training Node (FTN), Umroi, Meghalaya to counter-terrorism.

The bilateral joint exercise was held between the troops of the Indian Army and the Royal Thailand Army.
A press statement by the Army said that MAITREE is an annual bilateral joint exercise between the Indian Army (IA) and the Royal Thailand Army (RTA).

The statement added that the aim of the exercise was a joint training of troops in counter-terrorism operations in both jungle terrain and urban scenario.

It further added that the exercise had been the face of the long-standing bilateral tie between India and Thailand since 2006.

The ongoing 14-day exercise is conducted under the framework of the United Nations mandate. Both contingents will be sharing their valuable experiences in the conduct of counter-terrorism operations in the form of lectures, drills, demonstrations and skill-at-arms with an aim to refine tactics, techniques and procedures.

MAITREE will culminate with a 48-hour joint exercise to showcase the planning and execution of joint skills of soldiers while conducting any counter-terrorism operations.
