The veteran BJP leader, who was brought in to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi on August 9, had been put on life support. He breathed his last at 12:07 pm on Saturday.
Arun Jaitley’s mortal remains have been shifted to BJP headquarters at 10 am on Sunday for party workers and the public to pay their last respects. His funeral procession will begin from the BJP headquarters to the Nigam Bodh Ghat, where the last rites will be performed.
Jaitley, who was an important member of the Narendra Modi-led NDA Government, had held the finance and defence portfolios under the Modi regime. He was also a former attorney.
This will come as a major blow to the BJP, which had recently lost another senior leader, former External Affairs Minister, Sushma Swaraj, recently.
Arun Jaitley was admitted to the hospital after he complained of breathlessness and restlessness. Because of his ill-health, Arun Jaitley refrained from contesting the 2019 elections.
In May 2017, Jaitley had undergone a renal transplant with Railway Minister Piyush Goyal.
Jaitley served as the Finance Minister in the Modi government’s first term in office. However, due to his poor health, he was forced not to present the Interim Budget in February this year before the Lok Sabha polls.
