The demand was made after Indian President Ramnath Kovind appointed RN Ravi as the Governor of Nagaland. Ravi has also been acting as the Indian Government’s interlocutor since 2015.

In a letter to the PM, the NSCN-IM mentioned that under no circumstances will a Governor be accepted as an interlocutor. After the appointment of the existing interlocutor as the Governor, the rebel group has demanded a new interlocutor in his place.

The letter was sent to the PM by interlocutor for NSCN-IM, Thuingaleng Muivah along with the advisor where they also reminded the Government about the promises in its Framework agreement of 1997.

In the letter, it was further stated that after a dialogue at the PM level, the Indo-Naga political issue was taken into account by both the parties.

It is to be mentioned that the rebel outfit has expressed dissatisfaction over the meeting that was held with R N Ravi on July 26 at New Delhi. After taking charge as the governor of Nagaland, RN Ravi informed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has resolved the ‘Naga issue’.
