Congress MP from Barpeta, Abdul Khaleque on Saturday demanded the state government to provide with Rs 10 lakh each to the kin of the victims who lost their lives while travelling for National Register of Citizens (NRC) hearing.

Addressing the media, Khaleque said, “People are being harassed in the name of NRC hearing b the authorities. Six people lost their lives while travelling to different places for the NRC hearing. So, I demand the government to provide the family of the deceased a grant of Rs 10 lakh.”
Moreover, the Congress MP added, “The NRC needs to be published soon and those whose names will be left out of the NRC, the government has decided to lodge them at different detention camps in the state. But that cannot be fruitful as these detainees will be living on the economy of the tax paid by our people. They must be deported once they are declared foreigner to the country they belong to.”
The MP also mentioned about the harassment faced by the people in the name of D- Voter in the state and the flood issues prevailing in the state that he took up in the Lok Sabha.
