Ladakh’s young Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, who has been etched in the nation’s imagination after a fiery speech in the Parliament after the Narendra Modi led BJP government scrapped Article 370 and declared Ladakh as a Union Territory, has seen his stock rise in the ensuing days.
Speaking exclusively to Inside Northeast, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal said, “Article 370 is scrapped, which is in the interest of the nation because, for the period of seven decades, we have experimented with this article to dismal results. We have the results for that. More than 41,500 people of this country have lost their lives due to the turmoil in Kashmir…”
He added, “Now after the abrogation of Article 370, the future of Kashmir and common masses in the streets, shops and restaurants are very bright. Each and every policy, act or developmental scheme will be delivered on the ground without the wall of Article 370 in between.”
Replying to the statement that after being declared as a Union Territory, Ladakh has to begin with a new start, Namgyal said, “Ladakh is very fragile economically, as well as environmentally, culturally, so it is the responsibility of the government of India and the people residing there to keep it alive and protected…”
