The first flight to Dhaka from Guwahati took off today amid much fanfare. This flight is expected to improve Assam-Bangladesh connectivity.

Moreover, the flight is also expected to improve bilateral relations and improve trade relations between the two neighboring countries as per the ‘Act East Policy’ of the administration.
A grand flagging off ceremony was held at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi (LGBI) airport, which was chaired by Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.
Apart from the Chief Minister, Chandra Mohan Patowary, Minister for Transport, Industries and Commerce; Siddhartha Bhattacharya, Minister for Education; Bhabesh Kalita, Minister for Irrigation (Ind); and Ramendra Narayan Kalita, the MLA of Guwahati West Asssembly Constituency, were also present.
SpiceJet has launched a Guwahati-Dhaka flight from July 1 under the International Air Connectivity Scheme (IACS).
This is the first flight under the IACS scheme, also referred to as International Udan. The promotional price for a one-way trip between Guwahati and Dhaka will cost Rs 3,355.
SpiceJet was selected in January to operate flights to Dhaka and Bangkok under the Assam government’s initiative to boost international connectivity.
The state government is providing an annual viability gap funding of Rs 11 crore for the two routes.
