In an interesting development, the Nagaland state police force has expressed a keen desire to embrace the digital revolution that is taking over the world!
The DGP of Nagaland, T. John Longkumer, on Saturday launched the new official website of the Nagaland Police (https://police.nagaland.gov.in/) and also flagged off the e-patrol unit/app at Rhododendron Hall, Police Complex, Chümoukedima.
Speaking at the launching programme, Longkumer said the new website will enable visitors gain more information and services. Morever, it shall also access to the Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping of all police station. The DGP called upon the police officers and personnel to embrace the ‘Information Technology’ revolution that is sweeping the world.
It may be mentioned that the e-patrol app is unique and one of a kind, which will now allow digital monitoring and storage of details/data of patrolling units through GPS, via secured and encrypted QR codes installed at different patrolling points within specific police stations and jurisdictions with their specific co-ordinates. Moreover, it can even be accessed without internet connectivity.
DGP T. John Longkumer said that the elite state police unit or the Special Task Force (STF) will be commissioned soon.
Talking to the Nagaland Post on the sidelines of the new website launching event, Longkumer said that the STF will be equipped with advanced weapons and equipment.
Besides specializing in counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency operations, DGP said the STF will also assist in emergency situations outside the domain of normal policing duties.
