The Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) party which won 17 of the 32 seats in the Sikkim Legislative Assembly is set to form the government in Sikkim. The SKM legislators led by party president PS Golay met Governor Ganga Prasad at Raj Bhawan on Saturday and staked claim to form the next government in the hill state.

PS Golay, who however didn’t contest the election, would become the next Chief Minister. He is scheduled to take oath as the sixth CM of the hill State during a public function at Paljor Stadium in the capital Gangtok on Monday.

“The SKM party has met the Governor and submitted a resolution to form the government,” said Golay.

Meanwhile, outgoing Chief Minister Pawan Chamling held his last cabinet meet and meeting with the chief secretary and other bureaucrats. Chamling and his cabinet colleagues had submitted his resignation to the Governor on Friday. “I am a soldier of democracy. I will stay wherever the people keep me. This time they want me to be in the opposition and I respect that mandate. Now I shall show what opposition is and what its real role is,” said Chamling.

He added that the administration should be democratized and systematized to ensure equality that will boost society towards democratic setup. He affirmed that the state government ruled under his leadership for last twenty five years will be considered as golden era in the history of Sikkim.

Chamling in his final address said he respects the mandate given by the people and stated that he will sit in opposition as people want same. The CM also congratulated the SKM party for the victory and expected good work from the party.

The outgoing CM left for Namchi, his native place and home constituency in South Sikkim. The CM will offer his thanks to people in many places on his way to his native place.
