Guwahati, March 15, 2019:
The former adviser to Manav Adhikar Sangram Samiti (MASS), Lachit Bordoloi has announced the formation of a political party with the interest of regionalism. He also mentioned the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) has surrendered its regionalism to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for their personal interest.
“AGP has buried regional politics by getting back into the alliance. This is the reason we are trying to form a regional political party. As AGP has surrendered to BJP and forsaken regionalism, we urge the grass root workers to protest against it. We are requesting the members of the AGP to stop talking about the 855 martyrs of Assam agitation. They have murdered these martyrs for the second time. The public has demanded a regional party so we are trying to form a regional power in the region. We welcome all the people of Assam who have faith in this regionalism.”
“AGP had staged a drama as they were enjoying all the facilities as Ministers. Despite knowing that the BJP will bring the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, they joined hands with the BJP for fulfilling their own interest. The grass root workers including many of its members did not support this alliance and nor did the people of Assam. The decision was taken without the support of the majority of its members within 4-5 members of the party. This is nothing but betrayal to its own people,” he added.
Attending the conference, senior journalist Adip Phukan said, “We can’t keep regionalism by surrendering ourselves. We want someone to have a deep attachment with the roots keeping in view the general public of the state. We don’t want someone to give directions from New Delhi to run the Government. We want the regionalism in the state should be directed from the state itself. I don’t want someone to betray our people by standing by its side. The BJP is plotting a conspiracy to destroy the regionalism of Assam along with other states of the country.”
