Shillong, March 9, 2019: Ri Bhoi district
The Meghalaya Government on Saturday has finalized a plot of land that will act as entry and exit point in Umling of Ri Bhoi district. Meghalaya Governor Tathatagata Roy, during his speech on the first day of the Budget on Friday, has announced that setting up of facilitation centers at various entry and exit points to contain influx and check on illegal immigration and it would cost the Meghalaya Government over Rs. 1,000 crores.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma was accompanied to the spot by Home Minister, Transport Minister, Urban Ministers and other officials to the spot in Umling at 10 am.
“For the past few months, we have been looking for a location for the entry which is something important for our Government. We have tried to look at lands that we could purchase and in the process, we were able to identify land that already belonged to the Transport Department and thus, the Government has been able to save money”, said Sangma.
The CM has also stated that other entry and exit points will be set up at other strategic points in the state.
