In an avalanche on the India-China border in Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday, one jawan of the Indian Army’s Jammu and Kashmir Rifles unit died and five others were trapped.

According to reports, the Deputy Commissioner of Kinnaur, Gopal Chand informed that the body of one jawan, identified as Rajesh Kumar had been found, whereas bodies of five brave jawans are yet to be traced.
As per official sources, a total of 16 jawans were patrolling the border area when the avalanche struck. One of them was rescued but succumbed to his injuries.
A team of about 150 persons, including Army personnel have been moved to the site for searching the trapped jawans, along with the police.
