In a tweet, the Manipur Chief Minister, who runs a BJP Government in the state, expresses that the BJP Government has opted for a “consensus-driven approach”, referring to the mass protests against the Bill in the Northeastern region. “We deeply appreciate your affection for NE” he states.
On behalf of the people of Northeast & in particular Manipur, I would like to profusely thank Honble PM @narendramodi ji, BJP Pres @amitshah ji and HM @rajnathsingh ji for not tabling the CAB and opting for consensus driven approach. We deeply appreciate ur affection for NE! pic.twitter.com/pIpUn8qanl

One cannot feel that the Manipur CM is trying his best to cover for the blunders of the topmost leaders of his party. Despite Biren Singh’s suggestion that it is the Government which has refused to table the Bill over concerns for the Northeastern people, it has been clear from the beginning of the Rajya Sabha session that the only thing stopping the Bill from being passed was the ire of the indigenous people over being stabbed in the back by the BJP administration. Biren Singh’s own state of Manipur has seen widespread protests and a curfew had been imposed which was lifted earlier today.
