Biju Phukan Award

Guwahati, February 13, 2019:

Assamese acting icon Bishnu Kharghoriya has been conferred the Biju Phukan Award 2019 by the Cultural Affairs Department of the Government of Assam. The award will be conferred at a ceremony in Dibrugarh on February 18, on the 72nd birth anniversary of the late actor Biju Phukan (18 February 1947 – 22 November 2017).

The popular actor started his career as a child artist and along with movies; he also performed in numerous mobile theatres. He had also previously received the National Film Award for the movie ‘Xagoroloi Bohudoor’ (1995). The award will be handed over by Sarbananda Sonowal in the presence of Cultural Affairs Minister Naba Kumar Doley and MP Rameshwar Teli.

The award will also consist of a sum of Rs. 2 lakh, a citation, and an ‘angabastra’.
