Guwahati, February 10, 2019:
After Nagaland and Assam’s Dima Hasao district, it is now Manipur’s turn to call a ‘bandh’ on February 11 in protest against the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill. The ‘bandh’ in Manipur, which has been called by the Peoples’ Alliance Manipur (PAM), will be held from 5 am of February 11 to 5 pm on February 12.
The resolution to call the ‘bandh’ was taken at the Convention on Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 organized by the PAM in Imphal’s Gandhi Memorial Hall. The organization also decided to conduct a fast protest at 50 different places against the Bill.
It is widely believed that the Bill will be tabled at the Rajya Sabha on 11 February by the BJP Government. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has further suggested that the Bill will be implemented at any cost by the BJP as part of its “national commitment.”
