Veterans Day was observed in Guwahati on 14 January as a sign of respect for the veterans who had served the nation. The event commenced with wreath laying ceremony where homage were paid to the myrtyrs by the serving officers, Director of Rajya Sainik Board as well as by the Veterans and Veer Naris at War Memorial, Digali Phukri.  A two-minute silence was observed by all at the gathering. Thereafter, a gathering was hosted at Air Force Station, Borjhar where they were received and hosted by the AOC Air Commodore S Misra  VM and the CAO of Air Force Station , Borjhar.

Later, Director of Rajya Sainik Board Brigadier (retd) Joshi Narain Dutt Ganesh, SM, while addressing the veterans, informed them about the latest policies and instructions and appealed the veterans to have close liaison with the Sainik Board. A number of stalls were also opened for the veterans. The veterans duly reciprocated and appreciated the initiatives of the Armed Forces. The event was followed by a ‘bara khana’.

It may be mentioned that, a numbers of Armed Forces veterans are doing extremely well in their second innings. Flight Lt. M.K. Gogoi, is now GM of Food Corporation of India (FCI), Sergeant Sarat Gohan who is a top functionary of Assam Higher Secondary Education, Captain Kishore Kumar Choudhury who is Director of CBSE (Northeast Region), Air Commodore D.J. Sharma and Brig Borpujari who served as member of APSC and Late Col Manoranjan Goswami, Father of Arnab Goswami, who was a prolific author and TV personality. Captain Jintu Gogoi, VRC, who was the son of Flying Officer Thogi Ram Gogoi, was awarded one of the nation’s highest gallantry awards. The sons of two  former Chief Ministers of Assam have also made the country proud by  attaining high position in the Armed Forces namely  Air Marshal Anjan Gogoi Son of Keshab Chandra Gogoi and  Captain Bordoloi  son of Bharat Ratna Gopinath Bordoloi. Both of them are settled in Guwahati and doing extremely well.
