Guwahati, January 13, 2019:
Finally, some good news for people of the Northeast! A proposal to build an airport in Arunachal has been approved by the central Government. The airport is to be built at Hollongi at the Assam-Arunachal border, which is 15 kms from Gohpur town in Assam.
The Public Investment Board (PIB) in the Ministry of Finance has approved the project at a cost of 1055 crore, with 955.37 crores to be borne by the centre and 87 crores to be borne by the state.
The project has also been cleared by the Ministry of Environment and Forests.
The airport is estimated to be completed within four years.
A 2,200m runway is being proposed, which will enable jet aircrafts to fly from the bridge, ensuring direct flight to metropolitan cities.
Arunachal CM Pema Khandu took to express his pleasure at the news and thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for fulfilling the “long-cherished dream” of Arunachal people.
