State Health Minister Pijush Hazarika stated that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been successful in fulfilling the indigenous people’s demands and the party will work for the development and indigenous rights of the people of Assam after winning the Karbi Anglong Town Committee elections of the Karbi Anglong Municipality.

Speaking to InsideNE, Hazarika said, “The Sarbananda Sonowal government has been successful in fulfilling the people’s demand to an extent. This can be seen in the recent Panchayat elections where more than 90 percent of the seats were from the areas populated with indigenous people were in favour of the BJP government, which included the Panchayat, Zila Parishad, Anchalik Panchayat, etc.
“In the indigenous people’s land, Karbi Anglong, we have been able to come out victorious in all nine of the Municipal Board election, winning a total of 59 out of 65 seats. The Congress won 3 seats and 2 seats were won by independent candidates. We are always willing and committed to work for the development and indigenous rights of the people of Assam,” the minister stated.
It may be mentioned that Municipal Board elections in Karbi Autonomous council areas were on January 8, where BJP won the majority.
